I am amazed at how quickly he has gone from sleeping in the palm of my hand to taking 8 steps across the living room floor.
Past Dudley the weimaraner, past the couch, onto the carpet, and onto his butt! His urge to cry from heiney impact is overcome from the joy and cheers from his mom and dad.
What is my little guy thinking about when for the first time he let go of the couch, put both hands out like he was surfing, dipped down as if to fall, his hands stopping inches from the ground, standing back up, scrunching his knees three times, feeling the confidence, and gingerly stepping out of the world of palms and knees into 2 feet and vertical.
Part of me is saddened by this. I know he is not yet one year old, but as his dad I have this tremendous desire to keep him small, to bottle it up. I have prayed that I wouldn't worry so much about time passing quickly, that in my worrying I miss the good stuff. I actually have received a clear answer to this prayer. And that is to enjoy the small stuff (and stinky stuff); changing diapers, the baths, Kenny's desire to read one page of a book, and then go do something else, his desire to have you near and watch him, but not interact with him (Daddy's watching....? Good).
Oh, my little boy. What's next? Soon he'll be off and running across the house, fresh from the bath tub, thrilled that he escaped his mom's attempt to put clothes on him.... :) |

For any and all ESPN radio fans, you heard it here first. Mike Greenberg of Mike and Mike is pursuing other opportunties. It seems like every other day that someone else is filling in for Greenie.
In order for a show to work, the hosts need to be there most of the time. See Mike (no relation to the other 2 mikes) and the Maddog in NY, on WFAN NY. They are hands down the best at what they do.
Where Greenie will land is open to speculation. His dream was MNF. That seems to be on hold.
Personally I think it would be a mistake to leave. He is a young guy that has a national audience and the world at his feet. The next move should be a big move, and should come to him. Look at the dive Keith Oberlman's career has taken. |

Anyone who is a fan of the country group lonestar, let me apologize, as you are not going to like the following.
They write a song called, "Already There" a song about either a dad on a business trip or the lead singer calling from the road (although I doubt he weould ever be in a lonely cold hotel room) and missing his family. He tells his wife he misses her and the kids. Then one of his pee wees gets on the phone and asks Daddy when he'll be home. Then, in my opinion some of the scariest song lyrics in country music history are belted out. Take a look, and really think about these words.
A little voice came on the phone And said "Daddy when you coming home?" He said the first thing that came to his mind...
I'm already there Take a look around I'm the sunshine in your hair I'm the shadow on the ground I'm the whisper in the wind I'm your imaginary friend And I know I'm in your prayers Oh I'm already there
I'm the shadow on the ground? Boo! I'm the whisper in the wind? Ahhhgh! How about, "I'm the man behind the fence" or I'm the noise in the closet"
And my goodness, "I'm your imaginary friend?" What does this say about his little boy? That's kind of scary isn't it, imagining your little kid playing wiffle ball with Invisible Victor? Standing there waiting for a pitch that never comes?
If I had to add a verse, I'd add the thoughts that must be running through the little boy's mind after listening to his Daddy (remember to sing this to the tune):
Daddy please don't come home You're scaring me on the phone Baby Jimmie's cryin' He won't stop.... And Mom.... mie is calling the cops
What's a restraining order Dad? Thats what Mom just ordered from the copper man We are turning out the lights in the hall No more Daddy on the wall.....
Etc etc.
I love country music but..... :) |

Has anyone out there have advice for a Dad (and Mom of course) who really wants his son to nap in the daytime?
We were undboutedly created to need rest. He ought to rest. He wants to nap. My baby boy gets cranky and miserable when he doesn't sleep. We have read the books, heard the advice and allowed him to cry for an hour in his crib, but to no avail.
I am absolutely postive that there are people out there in cyberspace that have been through this and have advice (or at least encouragement!).
Last evening we had some dear friends over for dinner (to eat with us, not be eaten). Kenny was in his absolutely outstanding two piece jammy sleep set by 6pm. Prior to that we (Kenny and I) had a great time making his bath experience all that it could be - while Mom cooked lamb and prepared for our guests.
Squeaky clean and in pajamas that looked more like comfortable under armour gear, Kenny was already getting drowsy. However, after the guests arrived, he got his 2nd, 3rd and 4th wind. He is like his Mom and me, in the sense that he doesn't want to miss anything at all. So after an hour of trying to eat and pretend our hearts were not being ripped out by his shrieking wails, we brought him to the dinner table where he entertained us, and we were finally able to delight in our conversation (and the 21 pound baby circus holding court on my lap). Is there anything cuter than a baby's butt all wrapped up in his pajamas before bedtime?
He zonked about 9:15pm, 2 hours and 45 minutes after our target! |

Can anyone help me place this quote? I heard Ravi (Zacharias) use it. Ravi says that it is a quote that keeps coming back to him over and over again. But he can not attribute a creator to it.
I can't get it out of my mind.
"Jesus Christ continually contradicts us in the way we experience ourselves as alive.... and compels us to radically redefine what we mean by life. He encountered us the way we encountered the disciples on easter sunday. They were the ones marked out for death. Those who survived were really the dead. He the dead one was really the living."
Incredible.... |

My 10 month old boy doesn't sleep. That makes his 32 year old Mom and 36 year old Dad mad. Not mad as in angry, but mad as in at at times feeling on the brink of insanity!
We love our little guy with all our hearts. And they break as we see him tired and cranky mid afternoon. Yes, we have tried what all the experts say. We have rocked him. We have left him in the crib for an hour (seemed like 2 days), and checked into his diet and surroundings and on and on.
Maybe our boy just likes to be awake. Maybe this will change tomorrow. I do know that we could not be more blessed by this little boy. And he is sleeping right now.
Any insights would be appreciated! |

For an incredible read, please take a look at www.MommyBlog.com
I had this site created through a joint venture of a cartoonist in India and a brilliant web designer on Long Island. If you are a Mom that is looking for community, a place to share thoughts with other Mom's (great stories, frustrations, joys!) this is a good start. This site will be expanding. My work in the online advertising world will come in handy here. We envision a place where Moms can come and easily create their own blogs and share stories and photos of their kids. Keep an eye out! |
